Eric Carter has taken on the role of Vice President and General Manager of Birmingham Rail, a subsidiary of A. Stucki Company (Stucki) and a supplier of new and reconditioned rail, turnout, and switch material.

He will oversee all operations at Birmingham Rail’s locations in Birmingham, Ala.; Houston, Tex.; and Youngstown, Ohio, Stucki reported Feb. 4. Carter served most recently as CEO of Geismar North America, a railroad equipment supplier based in South Carolina. Previously, he was Vice President at Protran Technology, a New Jersey-based provider of safety systems for rail and other transportation industries.

Carter holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of South Carolina and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association.

“Eric has succeeded in sales and management positions in the rail industry for nearly two decades,” said Ron Port, who in August 2024 succeeded John O’Bryan as Stucki CEO. “His experience will help us streamline operations and drive growth at Birmingham Rail.”

“I am honored to join Stucki at a time of significant growth and change for the company,” Carter said. “A good team, along with simple, practical and effective processes, is a key to growth, and I am eager to start collaborating with everyone at Birmingham Rail.”

Moon Township, Pa.-based Stucki in 2022 became a portfolio company of Stellex Capital Management.  Its other subsidiaries are Alco Spring Industries, American Industries, American Turbocharger Technologies, DiMEC Rail Services, Independent Draft Gear, Magnus, Salco Products, Seco Machine and Stucki Roller Bearing.

In related developments, Stucki recently hired Jacob Creech and Clay Dark as Vice Presidents; Stacy Waltz as Chief Human Resources Officer; and Michelle Baker as Chief Transformation Officer.
