The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on Dec. 3 released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to establish a Technology Transfer (T2) Program. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 11, 2025.
The T2 program will “promote the deployment of successful transit innovation research findings” from projects funded by FTA’s Public Transportation Innovation Program (49 U.S.C. § 5312), which the agency said, “accelerates innovation that enhances safety, improves equitable mobility, refines transit operations, and fosters clean energy.” FTA invests more than $50 million per year in research and demonstration projects, and in 2024 managed a total research portfolio of approximately $190 million.
One cooperative agreement will be competitively awarded $5 million to launch the T2 program, whose goals will be to:
- “Develop processes, systems, and resources to support the deployment and adoption of FTA’s innovative research results in the public transportation industry.
- “Support the commercialization and production of technologies developed in the U.S., in part through FTA-funded research and development.
- “Overcome barriers and challenges affecting the adoption of research products in transit agencies.”
Eligible applicants include public departments and agencies, including federal laboratories; state and local governmental entities; providers of public transportation; private or non-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; and technical and community colleges.
FTA will hold a webinar on Dec. 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. ET to discuss the requirements of the funding opportunity and how to apply. Click here to register.
