Hitachi Rail is named as Greater Toronto’s Top Employer. Also, Rail Vision introduces a new Software as a Service (SaaS) platform.

Hitachi Rail

Hitachi Rail has been named a Greater Toronto’s Top Employer, in Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition, the definitive annual list of the country’s best workplaces. Hitachi Rail’s office in North York employs more than 1,000 people and is home to the global engineering excellence center for the Urban Rail Signaling business. Thales was the Top Employer for the past five years.

Hitachi Rail’s SelTrac™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) solution, invented in Ontario, helps urban public transport operators to carry three billion passengers every year. The technology is deployed on complex existing metro networks in New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, and also helped cities build new networks in Dubai, Doha, Santiago, Vancouver, Kuala Lumpur, and Seoul. Hitachi Rail provides signaling systems for more than 100 metro lines in over 40 major cities, including projects in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Montreal.

In May of this year, Hitachi Rail completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of Thales’ Ground Transportation Systems (GTS) business, making SelTrac ™ a Hitachi product.

For more than 50 years in Canada, Hitachi Rail has been an engineering leader, supporting customers in transportation, having established its first Canada location in Toronto in the 1970’s. Since those early beginnings, Hitachi Rail has been “a strong partner of local businesses and a positive economic force in the region,” according to the company.

With a total three offices in the Greater Toronto Area and additional offices in two other Canadian provinces—British Colombia and Quebec, Hitachi Rail employees in Canada work closely with colleagues throughout 50+ countries. Hitachi says it is “committed to fostering a diverse workplace where every employee feels welcomed, valued, respected, and supported to succeed.”

“Hitachi Rail is proud to be recognized as an employer of choice in Toronto with our Urban Rail Signaling competence center,” said Hitachi Rail Managing Director, Urban Rail Signaling Ziad Rizk. “Our talented people are our greatest asset and ensuring we have an inclusive and supportive environment is essential to our success.”

Rail Vision

Ra’anana, Israel-based technology company Rail Vision on Dec. 4 announced its new SaaS platform.

D.A.S.H., which stands for Discover, Analyze, Secure and Harness, “encapsulates Rail Vision’s mission to empower operators with actionable insights and reports,” according to the company.

The D.A.S.H. platform, Rail Vision says, integrates seamlessly with the company’s AI-driven MainLine and ShuntingYard systems, to address critical rail industry challenges. By leveraging advanced detection capabilities, big data analysis and robust safety measures, the platform enables rail operators to enhance decision-making and streamline operations, the company noted. The D.A.S.H. can be integrated with existing and future big data platforms from other sensors and create a synergy.

“We believe that D.A.S.H. represents Rail Vision’s holistic approach to transforming rail operations through big data and technology,” said Rail Vision CEO Shahar Hania. “With this platform, we aim to provide rail operators with the tools they need to overcome challenges, ensure safety, and achieve greater operational efficiency. The platform’s seamless connection to our existing products will enable us to cross sell and will expand our offering to new customers. As the new platform is a SaaS, we believe that sales of our SaaS to customers will enable us to generate recurring revenues in the future.”
