RazorSecure Ltd., a UK-based specialist in rail cybersecurity solutions, along with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., and Finland-based EKE-Electronics Ltd., have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on enhancing the cyber resilience of rail operations.
The MOU was signed during the 18th UK-Japan Rail Working Group hosted by the Department for Transport in London on Dec. 11, 2024, and the partnership will focus on three key areas of collaboration:
- “Product Integration: RazorSecure’s advanced cybersecurity solutions will be integrated with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS) and Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) and EKE-Electronics’ Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS), delivering a unified and secure approach to protecting critical rail systems.
- “Joint Service Development: The companies will collaborate on developing expanded service offerings, including managed Security Operations Centres (SOCs), to address the rising demand for cybersecurity in the rail sector.
- “Market Access: All companies will work together to expand their reach in key markets, such as Japan, the USA, Asia and certain markets in Europe, using their combined expertise and established networks to extend the reach of their solutions.”
This partnership, RazorSecure says, “reflects the growing need for innovative and robust cybersecurity solutions as rail systems face an increasing threat landscape and stringent regulatory requirements.” By combining RazorSecure’s expertise in rail-specific cyber security with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s leadership in rail systems and EKE- Electronics’ expertise in rail technology, the partnership, the company adds, “aims to deliver solutions that will continue to enhance rail safety, reliability, and compliance.”
“This partnership is an exciting step forward for both companies. By bringing together our expertise in rail cybersecurity and Mitsubishi Electric’s and EKE-Electronics’ reputation for innovation, we’re combining our strengths to tackle the challenges of securing digital rail systems,” RazorSecure CEO Alex Cowan.
“As the rail industry evolves, collaboration is key to tackling new cybersecurity challenges. By working with RazorSecure, we’re combining their expert understanding of cyber threats with our extensive experience of rail to help train operators and OEMs safeguard their systems and maintain operational reliability.” said Tetsuo Komura, General Manager of Transportation Information Systems of ITAMI works at Mitsubishi Electric.
“Digital transformation is reshaping the rail industry, making cyber security more critical than ever. This collaboration builds on our strong partnership with Mitsubishi Electric and is further enhanced by RazorSecure’s advanced cyber security expertise. Together, we are delivering a more robust and secure product offering for our customers, ensuring safe, reliable, and resilient rail operations worldwide,” said EKE-Electronics CEO Marko Mäkinen.
