Rod Doerr, Union Pacific’s (UP) Chief Safety Officer, joins Operation Lifesaver Inc.’s (OLI) National Board of Directors. Also, Darell Luther, CEO and Founder of Tealinc LLC, is stepping down; and Joanne Tyler is taking on a new role at Michael Baker International.

UP Chief Safety Officer Rod Doerr was recently appointed to represent the Class I railroad on OLI’s National Board of Directors as Co-Chairman. UP made the announcement via LinkedIn on March 26. Both Doerr and Buck Russel, UP’s Senior Supervisor, Public Safety, who sits on the OLI National Advisory Committee, help guide public safety outreach in the communities across UP’s 23-state network. “Congratulations, Rod, and thank you, Buck, for promoting #RailSafety,” UP wrote in its post.

Tealinc LLC

Darell Luther, CEO and Founder of railcar leasing and fleet management company Tealinc LLC, will retire April 1, 2025, after 38 years in the rail industry.

Luther will remain on the Tealinc LLC Board of Directors and continue to work closely with Julie Mink, President of Tealinc since 2015, who will continue to lead the company through Luther’s transition.

In 2002, Luther established Tealinc LLC., where he also served as President. Previously, he held the positions of President of DTE Rail and DTE Transportation Services Inc.; President and Co-Founder of Fieldston Transportation Services LLC; President and Founder of Focus Transportation Services; Managing Director of Coal and Unit Trains for the Southern Pacific Railroad; and Director positions in marketing, fleet management and integrated network management at Burlington Northern.

“Darell didn’t just build a company, he created a lasting legacy driven by integrity, remarkable creativity, and an extraordinary ability to deliver solutions that consistently provided outstanding customer value,” Julie Mink said. “We are excited to celebrate Darell’s profound contributions and wish him happiness in his retirement. Our team remains committed to building upon Darell’s visionary foundation, ensuring his impact in the rail industry continues in our work for many years to come.”

Michael Baker International

Joanne Tyler has been elevated to Office Executive-Carlsbad, Calif., for Michael Baker International, an engineering, planning and consulting firm. She will lead the growth and expansion of the firm’s Carlsbad location, engaging with clients on their civil and land development, engineering, traffic planning, transportation, stormwater, and water quality initiatives along the Southern California coast. Tyler will also collaborate with Operations leaders across Michael Baker’s practices and Western Region geographies.

Tyler has been with Michael Baker for seven years of her 30-year career. Most recently, she served as Department Manager-Land Development in Carlsbad. In this role, and previously as a project manager, she utilized her civil engineering and land surveying expertise across all aspects of public works and land development. Before joining Michael Baker, Tyler spent 20 years as a project manager and senior project engineer with O’Day Consultants, as well as a project engineer with other firms.

“Joanne’s three decades of experience with civil engineering and land surveying, covering all aspects of land development design, will be a great benefit to Michael Baker’s entire Carlsbad team and Southern California colleagues,” said Trudi Lim, Western Regional Director at Michael Baker International. “Her strong background as a manager on a variety of projects provides her with deep knowledge of our clients’ needs, which enables her to approach each challenge with a fresh perspective, resulting in effective and creative solutions.”
