D/Gauge, part of the TÜV Rheinland Group, and Cordel Group PLC announced Aug. 19 that they have won a contract to “revolutionize clearance assessment” spanning the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes divisions operated by Genesee & Wyoming (G&W).

The software and hardware package, the companies say, will provide scanning and storage of network-wide structure survey data, and the automated calculation and reporting of clearance information for the entire network.

Using Cordel’s ‘Cordel Rugged’ solution, the automated, portable capture system will obtain and store data into the ‘Cordel Connect’—Cordel’s proprietary rail data platform. This dataset will be used for clearance calculations that will assess the viability of larger and unusual load movements, the companies noted.

“We are thrilled to provide this cutting-edge clearance software, which will revolutionize the analysis and investigation of moving high-and-wide loads,” said D/Gauge Managing Director Colin Johnson. “Our innovative solution ensures the safe assessment of unique, non-standard revenue-generating freight, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the industry.”

“This is another important step for us in the U.S. market and demonstrates the value that we bring to railroads globally,” said Cordel CEO John Davis.
