Eco Material Technologies (Eco Material) has opened the Blissville Rail Terminal in Queens, N.Y., to distribute its fly ash and sustainable cementitious materials to the metro area construction market. The terminal is served by Anacostia Rail Holdings New York & Atlantic Railway (NYA) and operated by Precision Terminal Logistics, LLC (PTL) in partnership with Eco Material.

Much of the distributed material is said to be sourced from Eco Materials’ landfill harvesting projects including its Danville, Pa., facility, which harvests coal ash from a nearby landfill and processes it to specification-grade product.

“The opening of the Blissville Terminal reinforces Eco Material’s leadership in sustainable innovation and [is] a major step in our efforts to expand access to low-carbon cement alternatives in all major metro areas,” Eco Material CEO Grant Quasha said in an April 29 announcement. “By strengthening our presence in New York, we can better serve future infrastructure projects with innovative materials that reduce reliance on traditional portland cement and imported steel slag. Utilizing rail transportation streamlines delivery and aligns with our mission to advance sustainable solutions for the construction industry.”

“Eco Materials and PTL have been working on developing this rail transload site in New York on rail lines operated by NYA for several years,” noted Jason Hodge, Vice President of Commercial Development at PTL, which already operates 24 rail-served transload terminals in 15 states and was established in 2019 by Anacostia Rail Holdings and Brown Brothers Harriman Capital Partners Opportunities Fund, L.P. “PTL is honored to have been selected to work as an extension of Eco Material, providing best-in-class transload operations at the Blissville transload terminal. PTL is excited for the opportunity to grow with Eco Material and its customers by delivering this rail transload solution. We are also excited about the opportunity to help provide much-needed rail-based transload and logistics services to the New York market.”

“Partnering with Eco Material on this project allows us to leverage our extensive rail infrastructure to deliver materials to market efficiently,” NYA President Marlon Taylor added. “This approach reduces truck traffic, emissions, and wear and tear on our roadways while streamlining supply chains and supporting sustainable building practices in a key metropolitan area.”

NYA serves the metropolitan area consisting of Brooklyn, Queens, and Nassau and Suffolk counties. It operates over tracks of the MTA Long Island Rail Road and connects with Canadian Pacific Kansas City, CSX, Norfolk Southern, New York New Jersey Rail, and Providence & Worcester Railroad.
