The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $33,780,304 in federal funding, as part of the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program, to Paducah & Louisville Railway, Inc. (P&L) to support several infrastructure projects along the Class II’s 280-mile main line between Louisville and Paducah, Ky., including upgrades to signals and track infrastructure, installation of a wheel truing machine, and rehabilitation of five rail bridges in Hardin and Muhlenberg Counties.
The P&L main rail line connects with Class I carriers BNSF, CN, Norfolk Southern (NS) and CSX, transporting equipment for Kentucky’s military installations, materials used for manufacturing, and other freight vital to interstate commerce.
“P&L is excited to continue our work to rebuild critical freight railroad infrastructure,” said P&L Chairman, President and CEO Tom Greene. “This project will benefit all Kentuckians by keeping employers in the Commonwealth connected to markets around the world. I want to especially thank Senator McConnell for all of his hard work to ensure that Kentucky infrastructure projects receive their fair share of funding. These projects and the funding announced today would not be possible without his support.”
