R.J. Corman’s 75,000 square-foot distribution center in Clarksville, Tenn., is transitioning to a new customer, to be served by Railway Age’s 2021 Short Line of the Year, R.J. Corman Railroad Company Memphis Line.
The customer was not named but described in R.J. Corman’s Sept. 3 announcement as an “industry leader in paper products.”
The new customer agreement includes a lease for the entire distribution center, as well as a track lease, according to Nicholasville, Ky.-based R.J. Corman, which owns and operates 19 short lines; provides emergency rail services associated with derailments and natural disasters, switching, track construction, track material distribution, and signal design/construction; and operates a dinner train in Bardstown, Ky. Also part of the agreement: approximately 400 carloads inbound via the 113.04-mile Memphis Line, which interchanges with CSX (see map below).
The Clarksville Distribution Center will be used as a “hub” to ship products throughout the United States, according to R.J. Corman, which operates another single-client facility in Woodburn, Ky., the South Union Distribution Center that is used by Logan Aluminum and served by the Memphis Line.
“R.J. Corman is thrilled to start this new agreement with our customers and continue serving the Clarksville community and key businesses contributing to the area’s economy,” said Mike Robinson, Vice President of Commercial Development for R.J. Corman Railroad Group.
Separately, R.J. Corman appointed Alín Campián as Interim Chief Financial Officer in June and subsidiary R.J. Corman Switching Company launched operations at its Central Appalachia Inland Port at Prichard division in Wayne County, W.Va.
