The International Association of Railway Operating Officers (IAROO) has announced plans for its Annual Meeting, to take place at Railway Interchange in Indianapolis, May 20-22, 2025. The meeting will be joint with the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Railroad Superintendents (AARS). Both organizations have been serving the industry, and its operating management, for more than 125 years.
Among the features of the coming meeting will be a panel discussion, moderated by railway consultant and Railway Age Contributing Editor David Schanoes, on operation of longer freight trains. Panelists will include technology specialists, safety experts and educators The public and private sectors will be represented.
Another program segment will highlight new locomotive technologies. Hydrogen-fueled and battery locomotives will be discussed, including the safety attributes of such technology. Yet another program will highlight other recent technological advancements, with presentations discussing the benefits provided to the industry.
Short line and regional railways will be represented on the program by the former CEOs of two of America’s most notable Class II roads, Conrail Shared Assets and the Indiana Rail Road. A tour of the Indiana Rail Road’s Indianapolis facilities is also on the agenda.
