CSX on May 8 reported that it is serving Oleo-X’s new Pascagoula, Miss., facility, which handles renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel feedstock merchant pretreatment. A ribbon-cutting was held at the facility earlier this month to celebrate its launch.

The new plant has the potential to produce up to 300 million gallons of feedstock per year, according to Oleo-X, which said that its technology will allow the processing of “low-carbon, inedible oils—including poultry fat—without blending in high-quality oils taken from the food industry.”

Oleo-X purchased the site, the former home of Chemour’s First Chemical plant, in June 2022. Over the past 11 months, it has revamped and expanded the facility, which supports more than 60 jobs. The company recently appointed longtime airline fuel executive Sergio Correa as CEO.

“At Oleo-X, our vision is to feed the growing demand for sustainable energy,” said Oleo-X investor Ivonne Ruggles, who noted that the facility’s launch “brings us one major step closer to making that vision a reality. … Oleo-X is committed to modernizing and optimizing the way low-carbon fuels are manufactured.”

CSX is proud to be Oleo-X’s transportation partner on this important project for the future of our planet and the economies of Mississippi and our nation,” CSX Vice President of Real Estate and Industrial Development Christina Bottomley said.

In a related development, CSX on March 30 reported that the Commerce Park II – Rail Site, a 150-acre property adjacent to the CSX mainline and part of a larger planned 1,000-plus acre industrial park in southwest Hopkinsville, Ky., has been designated a Platinum CSX Select Site.
