A tentative agreement was reached with Unifor Local 101R in January, following a strike action notice by the union, which in October filed for conciliation in its negotiations with CPKC.
“Our members worked so hard and stood together to reach this collective agreement in difficult and uncertain economic times,” said Lana Payne, National President of Unifor, Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy. “Together, we achieved important gains in work ownership protections, improved working conditions and greater job security for our members.”
“By working collaboratively together with Unifor, we have completed another collective agreement reached at the bargaining table that benefits our employees with improved wages and benefits for years to come,” CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel said. “This agreement, ratified with strong support among our mechanical employees, brings long-term labor stability to our railroaders as we continue to safely and efficiently serve our customers moving the Canadian and North American economies.”
The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employees Division, representing about 2,300 engineering services employees in Canada, ratified a new four-year collective agreement with CPKC earlier this month. Also earlier this month, CPKC announced its tentative four-year collective agreement with United Steelworkers, which represents some 600 clerical and intermodal employees in Canada.
