NS

NS on Feb. 18 announced that it has been recognized as one of FORTUNE Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies in 2025 and was the highest-ranked railroad in the Trucking, Transportation and Logistics category. The annual survey, conducted by FORTUNE and Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm, is given to top executives, directors and financial analysts, to identify the companies with the strongest reputations within their industries and across industries.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the Norfolk Southern team in our mission to move the American economy,” said NS President and CEO Mark George. “We’re proud of the work we continue to do to drive innovation and deliver consistent and reliable service to our customers, while also making a positive impact on our communities.”

FORTUNE’s World’s Most Admired Companies list is “the definitive report card on corporate reputations.” Korn Ferry has collaborated with FORTUNE annually since 1997 “to identify, select and rank the World’s Most Admired Companies and uncover the business practices that make these companies highly regarded among their peers.” To compile the rankings, corporate reputation and performance are measured against nine key attributes: “innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products and services, and global competitiveness.”

At the presentation, The Home Depot noted BNSF’s partnership with them on a pilot project that improved routing and reduced transit time by more than 40 percent in a key market.

“This award highlights our commitment to collaborating with customers to deliver the efficient and reliable transportation services they need,” said Group Vice President Industrial Products Colby Tanner. “We value the partnership we have built with The Home Depot and are grateful for the recognition, which we share with multiple teams across our organization.”

Separately, BNSF’s Stockton, Calif.-based team just a completed a full year without a single injury, the Class I announced via an X post.

All major terminals in the region, with about 500 employees, have now achieved injury-free streaks of more than one year, including:

  • Fresno – 1,227 days injury-free.
  • Bakersfield – 584 days injury-free.
  • Richmond – 555 days injury-free.
  • Stockton – 372 days injury-free.

Their collective achievement is believed to be the first time all crafts in Northern California have reached at least one year injury-free at the same time, according to BNSF.
