During the visit, CSX said, “our team focused on driving growth by assessing the construction progress and timeline for the new rail spur. We’re proud to support Wholesale Building Products as they expand their reach in the Sunshine State.”

Applications are open through Sept. 1 for NS’s grant programs that support organizations in the 22 states where it operates.
Tax-exempt nonprofits and government entities that “align with the pillars of Norfolk Southern’s community impact program: safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities” are eligible to apply, according to the railroad. Its Safety First grants go up to $15,000 and its Thriving Communities grants go up to $50,000.
NS in 2024 provided more than $6.3 million to 400-plus organizations across 250 cities. Highlights include:
- “Safety: Replacing the firefighting foam in Springfield, Ill., for the fire department’s Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team.
- “Sustainability: Protecting land along the 25-mile lower Appomattox River corridor through invasive plant management by Friends of the Lower Appomattox River Inc. in Petersburg, Va.
- “Workforce Development: Funding skilled labor and job readiness training through the City Fields Workforce Development program in Cleveland, Tenn.
- “Thriving Communities: Supporting Hope Atlanta in its mission to assist unhoused individuals or those at risk of losing stable housing through rapid rehousing, rental assistance, utility deposits, and comprehensive case management support.”

In related news, NS’s Management Committee last month volunteered with HOPE Atlanta, and the railroad recently pledged $500,000 to help expand the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
And don’t miss NS’s Annie Adams this fall at the Railway Age/RT&S 2025 Women in Rail conference, where she will be a featured speaker. The conference, now in its third year, will be held Oct. 15-16 at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg in Illinois.
