BNSF on June 4 reported via social media that it excelled in “dwell” in May:

  • “It was our top monthly all-time dwell reduction ever!
  • “Six of our Top 10 dwell reduction days were set in May this year.
  • “Our North and South regions had their best monthly dwell reductions, with four terminals—Denver; Minot, North Dakota; Everett, Washington; and Temple, Texas—setting new records.
  • “It was the best May for average number of cars sorted at our hump yards.
  • “At those hump yards, we had the best May for average number of cars that arrived for sorting. We missed our all-time record month by just one car!
  • “It was also the best May for the average cars pulled (second-best month ever) AND average cars departed (third best-month ever) at our hump yards.
  • “Our top 10 months for dwell reduction at our hump yards have all happened in the last 11 months!”

According to the Class I: “One day, month, quarter at a time, we’re making gains—or reductions in this case—that underscore how customers are gaining a competitive advantage and win with BNSF.”
