“Congratulations to Petro-Canada Lubricants on the grand opening of the Edmonton Distribution Centre! This marks an exciting step in our partnership, improving efficiency and service to your customers across Western Canada,” CN reported via LinkedIn on Sept. 24. “We’re proud to support this milestone and look forward to continued success together.”

Launched Sept. 18, the new facility integrates advanced shipping, delivery, loading, and tank storage processes “to provide a seamless, efficient and reliable experience for customers,” according to Mississauga, Ontario-based Petro-Canada Lubricants, which produces lubricants, specialty fluids, and greases for a variety of industries, including railroads. “By strengthening logistics operations, Petro-Canada Lubricants can now provide faster more reliable access to its products, further supporting the needs of businesses in the region.”

The company noted that the facility was also designed to protect employees and customers during product pick-ups particularly in harsh weather conditions.

Separately, CN recently announced that Pivotal Energy Partners Inc. has officially opened its new facility in Edson, Alberta, and the first carloads of propane are on their way.

Five sheet metal workers from UP’s Yermo fueling facility recently marked 25 years of injury-free service, the Class I reported Sept. 24 in the Inside Track section of its website.

The Mechanical Locomotive group, including sheet metal workers Gabriel Aguayo, Roger Chapman, Travis McCain, Jose Pena, and Manuel Velazquez, “exemplifies excellence through accountability and prioritizing safe choices to reduce risk as they service locomotives,” according to UP Senior Director-Locomotive Maintenance Justin Hendrickson. “This is a motivated group,” he pointed out. “They display a high level of organization and take great pride in their work.”

UP said the team members perform “detailed forecasting of inbound and outbound trains in need of fueling,” and “maintain orderly conditions for themselves and their Transportation Department co-workers, contributing to their safety track record.”

Hendrickson reported that “[i]deas to improve processes or the facility are discussed within the group until there’s an agreed-upon course of action.” Such “collective” decisions give them “a sense of ownership, which leads to sustainment,” he noted.

The team received a plaque along with individual safety achievement awards.

In other UP news, 19 employees recently graduated from the Class I’s Leadership Development Program.
