CN
CN on Nov. 26 released its first IRAP, “reaffirming its commitment to strengthen ties with Indigenous communities, foster mutually beneficial relationships, and create opportunities for meaningful collaboration on the journey toward genuine reconciliation,” according to the Class I.
The IRAP (download below) commitments and actions were developed and shaped by the insights, priorities, and feedback received from Indigenous communities and CN employees that engage with these communities.
CN’s IRAP outlines concrete steps, measurable commitments, and a clear vision to guide CN on its reconciliation journey over the next three years, in Canada. Through this plan, CN says it “aims to build sustainable, respectful, and long-term partnerships with Indigenous peoples.”
The Action Plan is structure around five pillars:
- Cultural Awareness and Employee Engagement
- People and Employment
- Economic Reconciliation
- Community Engagement and Relationships
- Environmental Stewardship, Safety and Sustainability
“Our Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan is a major milestone on CN’s path toward reconciliation with Indigenous communities,” said CN Senior Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer Olivier Chouc. “As a company, we are committed to driving meaningful change and ensuring that our efforts have a lasting, positive impact. This is about more than a plan—it’s about deepening relationships, fostering collaboration, and building a better future together.”
CN’s IRAP, the Class I says, “reflects its commitment to continuous learning, meaningful action, and lasting progress. It provides a strong foundation for fostering positive and sustainable change, guiding the Company in its continued efforts to support, honor and respect Indigenous communities across its network.”
CSX
CSX has donated more than 30 laptops to Twin Lakes Academy Middle School in Jacksonville, Fla., “underscoring its commitment to supporting STEM education within the local community,” according to the Class I.
“CSX believes in empowering our community, and one way we do that is by ensuring students have what they need to be educated and to innovate,” said CSX Senior Technical Director Christina Stallings.
The company’s donation is the latest contribution in an ongoing partnership with the school. Earlier this year, CSX hosted an “Innovation Day” at Twin Lakes Academy, where students participated in hands-on demonstrations led by CSX professionals. Activities included robotics, drones, coding, and engineering, all designed to spark student interest in potential STEM career paths.
“CSX has shown that true partnership is more than just about giving—it’s also working in the trenches and believing in the work,” said Aurelia Williams, principal at Twin Lakes Academy. “They are setting the example for other organizations in walking the walk and talking the talk.”
CSX’s engagement with students at Twin Lakes Academy “reflects its dedication to fostering innovative learning opportunities and inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers,” the Class I said. Through initiatives like its laptop donation and interactive STEM event, CSX says it “continues to make a meaningful impact in the communities it serves.”
