BNSF has awarded Certified Sites designation to four new locations: Everett, Spokane and Plymouth, Wash.; and Springfield, Mo., with acreage ready for industrial development. The Certified Sites program, the railroad said, “is a strategic initiative designed to meet growing demand for rail-served, customer site locations throughout BNSF’s network.”

“To be eligible, sites must undergo a thorough analysis, which evaluates environmental and geotechnical standards, available utilities, site availability and existing and proposed infrastructure,” BNSF noted. “An industry expert reviews BNSF Certified Sites to ensure accurate, reliable data. The program aims to create a catalog of rail-served sites that are ready for immediate development.”

Smith Island Terminal in Everett is a 54-acre site is located north of Seattle, less than eight miles from the Port of Everett and two miles from Interstate 5. The site is zoned for heavy industrial use and includes an existing rail loop with direct access to BNSF’s main line.

Spokane International Airport Rail-Truck Transload Center is expansive site adjacent to Spokane International Airport and Fairchild Air Force Base offering 305 acres zoned for light industrial use with room for expansion. It also includes an existing truck-rail transload facility with a secure 2,000-foot x 80-foot concrete maneuvering area, as well as access to Interstate 90 and U.S. Route 92.

Plymouth Industrial Site spans more than 1,300 acres with “excellent connectivity,” including access to State Route 14 and Interstates 82 and 84, providing access to five major ports within a four-hour drive. The site is zoned for heavy industrial use and features an existing loop track with access to BNSF’s main line.

Moon Light in Springfield is a 186-acre site set to transition from agricultural zoning to industrial and logistics use. Located less than one mile from Springfield-Branson National Airport, the site is adjacent to BNSF’s main line and provides convenient access to Interstate 44. It also provides connectivity to the Kansas City Intermodal facility and the Port of Catoosa in Tulsa, Okla.

“We’re excited to announce these four new locations to our growing list of Certified Sites across BNSF’s vast network,” said Assistant Vice President of Economic Development Chris Danos. “These sites enable our customers to enhance their service offerings by leveraging the benefits of rail, while significantly reducing the time it would take to construct new facilities.”
