CN has recognized 213 shippers with Safe Handling Awards for 2024.

CN’s Safe Handling Award, established in 1992, is presented to customers “who load freight cars with dangerous goods and meet rigorous safety standards in the handling and transportation of regulated products.” The winners, CN said, “must meet established criteria based on the total number of shipments of dangerous goods across all facilities.”

According to the Class I railroad, the awards are an “important part” of the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® Program, an ongoing performance improvement initiative, in which CN is a partner, both in the U.S. and Canada.

“Congratulations to the 2024 recipients for consistently demonstrating the highest standards in the safe handling of dangerous goods across CN’s network,” CN Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Rémi G. Lalonde said. “Safety is more than a priority; it’s the promise we make to each other every day. Thank you to the 213 shippers for keeping that promise, for their achievements and commitment to safety.”

Added CN Vice President Petroleum and Chemicals Buck Rogers: “Safety is a shared responsibility—and we’re in it together. These awards recognize customers who lead by example, putting safe practices first with every shipment. Thank you for helping us protect our people and the communities
where we operate.”

In related developments, Union Pacific on April 28 reported recognizing 147 chemical shippers for their dedication and commitment to safety with the 2024 Pinnacle Award; and CSX on April 14 announced 62 customers as winners of its 31st Annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award for their “dedication to safely transporting hazardous materials across the company’s rail network in 2024.”
