Wabtec Approved as a ‘RailPulse Certified Telematics Vendor’
“Telematics is an emerging technology in the rail industry, a market that currently lacks real-time visibility over a vast majority of its railcars worldwide,” said Wabtec Vice President – Growth and Innovation Evan Sevel. “With the RailPulse certification, Wabtec’s telematics platform will help advance the adoption of railcar tracking technology across the rail sector and drive meaningful business outcomes for our customers.”
Wabtec’s telematics solutions include the Gateway (CLT-20Ex), Bridge (CLT-M) and universal Load/Empty Handbrake sensors (LU-19-Ex). These sensors, according to the company, “capture critical hidden information regarding a customer’s railcar fleet and turns it into actionable data that improves operational efficiency and safety.”
As the coalition that establishes the rail industry’s universal standards for telematics, RailPulse has rigorous requirements for obtaining the certification which include ensuring data quality, performance, mechanical robustness, and ongoing support. Wabtec’s telematics solutions passed extensive testing, and the company’s portfolio exceeded the requirements for uptime and data accuracy, the company noted.
“We are excited to certify Wabtec as a RailPulse vendor,” said RailPulse General Manager David Shannon. “Wabtec has a rich history of pioneering next-generation solutions for railcars. Together, we will drive transformative change in the rail sector by combining our strengths and fostering a culture of innovation that will shape the future of rail transportation.”
