PS Technology (PST), a wholly owned subsidiary of Union Pacific, and L&T Technology Services Ltd. (LTTS), a research and development firm based in India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding “to focus on the design, development and supply of advanced AI-based simulation technologies” to help improve railroad “operational efficiency and safety” in India and adjacent markets, the partners reported July 30.

As part of the agreement framework, PST and LTTS have established their first Customer Experience and R&D Center (CXC) in Faridabad, India, near New Delhi. According to the partners, the new center “will simulate real-time data collection, proactive decision-making, and improved resource management, setting new standards in rail simulation, immersive learning, training, and crew management.” CXC’s aim, they say, is to drive “advancements in simulation and training capabilities for the Indian Railways,” and help make rail transportation “safer, more secure, and faster.”

“We are thrilled to partner with LTTS to introduce our advanced simulator technology in India and adjacent rail markets,” said Abhinav Bhan, Senior Managing Director and Global Head of PST, a supplier of crew management, qualification management, and timekeeping systems, as well as training simulators. “This collaboration aligns with our commitment to revolutionize rail infrastructure through innovation and localized solutions.”

“LTTS’ extensive experience in the railways engineering domain, combined with PST’s innovative simulator technology, forms a game-changing proposition for the global railway market,” said Alind Saxena, Executive Director and President–Mobility and Technology at LTTS. “Our partnership will deliver transformative mobility solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety across the rail network. We are excited to establish the CXC in Faridabad, which will serve as a hub for innovation and excellence in rail simulation technology.”

In a 2022 Rail Group On Air podcast, PST’s Abhinav Bhan discussed with Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono what common mistakes businesses make when seeking to modernize technology solutions; how railroads can identify key process functions and plan for continuous enhancement over time; what rail data sources are candidates for dashboards and process improvements; how efficiencies in tech for compliance management and cost avoidance can be leveraged; and how railroads can clearly understand information and process silos.
