Digi International, a provider of IoT (Internet of Things) connectivity products and services, on Aug. 1 announced a collaboration with Cylus to integrate the company’s CylusOne cybersecurity solution into the Digi TX64 5G Rail celluar router solution, “delivering an unprecedented level of cyber protection for rail networks worldwide.”
With rail systems increasingly relying on digital connectivity and the number of cyber threats to rail communication networks on the rise, safeguarding these networks has never been more essential, Digi noted. The integration of CylusOne with Digi TX64 5G Rail “directly addresses the challenge, providing a comprehensive, space-saving solution that combines 5G connectivity and cybersecurity into a single device, along with Digi Remote Manager® for remote monitoring and management,” according to Digi.
“Our collaboration with Cylus marks a significant advancement for rail cybersecurity,” said Digi International Business Development Director for Government and Transportation Steve Mazur. “With the new integration, we are not only enhancing the security and reliability of rail networks but also streamlining and improving operations—delivering a unified solution for rail operators globally.”
According to the company, the Digi TX64 5G Rail cellular router solution with integrated CylusOne is the “first product of its kind to offer both high-speed connectivity and specialized cyber protection in a single device—simplifying infrastructure and reducing the complexity and physical space requirements typical of multi-device setups.”
“Unlike generic cybersecurity solutions, CylusOne is uniquely built for the industry and designed for the operational rail technology environment—addressing the specific threats faced by today’s rail systems and an excellent security enhancement for the Digi TX64 5G Rail router,” the company added.
Providing cellular connectivity across 5G, 4G and 3G networks, combined with enterprise-grade routing, security, firewall and integrated VPN capabilities, the Digi TX64 5G Rail router’s interface design includes an integrated Wi-Fi six-access point and client, USB ports, serial connections, inertial-guided GNSS, Bluetooth® and a four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, along with various configuration options.
Additionally, it features FirstNet Trusted™ support to help address the critical needs of first responders during emergencies. Digi TX64 5G Rail also adheres to the U.S. government’s FIPS 140-2 cybersecurity standard and incorporates the Digi TrustFence® security framework, “ensuring robust security from day one and throughout its lifecycle.” With Digi Remote Manager and available value-added services, deployment and central management of the Digi TX64 5G Rail are both “straightforward and efficient,” the company noted.
“Cylus is at the forefront of rail cybersecurity, and we are delighted to partner with Digi International to bring this innovative solution to the industry,” said Cylus CTO Miki Shifman. “Together we can provide rail operators with unparalleled security and connectivity, underlining our ongoing mission and commitment to protect critical rail infrastructure against evolving cyber threats—ensuring continuous safety and operational efficiency.”
